Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin on Wednesday named Jason Pizatella, former legislative director and acting revenue secretary, as his deputy chief of staff.
Pizatella’s promotion is effective immediately.
“During my tenure in the State Senate and now as governor, I’ve had the great privilege of working with Jason. He has a keen understanding of how government works,” Tomblin said in a prepared statement. “I’m confident Jason will do well in this new position, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.”
Pizatella, a Fairmont native, graduated from West Virginia University’s College of Law in 2007. He also received his undergraduate degree from WVU in 2004. After college, he went to work as a lawyer at Spilman, Thomas and Battle, PLLC in Charleston. He then served as counsel to the State Senate’s Government Organization and Finance committees, eventually become Deputy State Tax Commissioner.
He joined the Tomblin administration as Director of Legislative Affairs in January 2011. He recently was named acting revenue secretary, taking the job after Charles Lorensen left to become Tomblin’s chief of staff. Former House Speaker Bob Kiss took over as revenue secretary on July 1.
