Pratt Mayor Gary Fields will make his first appearance in Kanawha County Magistrate Court for a summons hearing on Oct. 11.
Last week, state police formally charged Fields with one count of misdemeanor simple possession of a controlled substance.
According to the criminal complaint, Fields was pulled over on Paint Creek Road on Aug. 29 in a town-owned vehicle. An officer found Fields in possession of four Roxicodone for which he did not have a prescription. Fields told the officer he obtained the pills from a friend.
After the incident, Pratt’s town council voted to remove Fields’ right to operate city vehicles after going into a closed-door executive session at its last council meeting on Sept. 10. Then, last week, the Kanawha County Commission voted to give the town a used sheriff’s department car, provided that it only be used for official business and that Fields not be allowed to operate the vehicle.
