According to tweets by national recruiting analysts, Marshall’s lone QB commit for the Class of 2012 — Trenton Norvell – has switched his verbal pledge from the Herd to Cincinnati.
This is problematic for Marshall in a couple ways, given that Norvell was supposed to be THE quarterback of this class and the fact that he is a January enrollee. The latter was supposed to be a bonus for Marshall, which would get its quarterback in for the spring semester and spring ball, but now with the news of the change of heart severely cuts down on the time the Herd staff has in switching Norvell back to the home team.
Norvell is listed as a 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback from Seabreeze High School in Daytona, Fla. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 27 best pro-style quarterback in the country. He also held offers from South Florida and Temple.
Marshall has no other QB commitments in this class. There are three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster: sophomore A.J. Graham, true freshman Rakeem Cato and true freshman Blake Frohnapfel. Graham and Frohanpfel each recently had shoulder surgery and are out indefinitely.
