Marshall’s football team might not be the only one at the Joan on Saturday dealing with significant injury issues … and the Herd might have, for lack of a better term, caught a break.
Houston coach Tony Levine said Wednesday that running back Charles Sims is “very, very doubtful” for Marshall’s home finale. He’s missed most of the last two games after injuring his ankle against UTEP.
For a team that has struggled against the run the way Marshall has this season, it offers some breathing room when a guy averaging more than 106 yards rushing per game isn’t in the lineup. Marshall Defensive Coordinator Chris Rippon said that shouldn’t change Houston’s game plan, but it should change the efficacy of the Cougars’ run game.
If you’ll remember, Marshall Coach Doc Holliday said receiver Aaron Dobson, linebacker Devin Arrington and receiver/returner Andre Snipes-Booker all could be out for Saturday’s game, possibly putting almost half the players to be honored on Senior Day in street clothes when they’re standing on the 50.
Could any of them pull a Willis Reed this Saturday? We’ll have to wait and see.
