Didn’t do a Numberosity for this week’s game, but there’s only one number that really matters.
0 — The number of losses Marshall can afford in the regular season’s last two games.
Marshall and Houston enter today in the identical position — one loss keeps them home for the holidays. Beat the Cougars and Marshall gets an all-or-nothing showdown at East Carolina the day after Thanksgiving. Lose to the Cougars, and both the Herd and the already-bowl-bound Pirates play solely for bragging rights.
Today’s injury list is a long one — and full of important names. WR Aaron Dobson (knee), LB Devin Arrington (knee) and WR/KR/PR Andre Snipes-Booker (likely concussion) will watch the last home game of their college careers in street clothes. Guard John Bruhin (ankle) is in uniform, though it would have taken the National Guard to keep him away. Safety Okechukwu Okoroha is dressed, too. And he’s wearing a cast on his right hand that looks like a medieval weapon. The Cougars are praying he doesn’t go Deacon Jones on anyone.
The big question mark on Houston’s side was RB Charles Sims, Conference USA’s leader in rushing yards per game, who missed the last two games with an ankle injury. He’s in uniform today, but he wasn’t getting around so briskly during warmups. Is he a decoy or Willis Reed? We’ll find out in about 20 minutes.
It’s a gorgeous, cloudless day here at the Joan, a place where no Texas team has won in eight tries. The Herd needs to make it nine to keep its bowl hopes alive.
If anything else pops up pregame, we’ll return to this spot. If not …
Happy Last Home Game, y’all.
