As in “The end of the season or the beginning of bowl prep?” The result of today’s game decides Marshall’s fate in that regard.
The Thundering Herd players talked about a sense of urgency coming into today’s game at the quite gorgeous Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Now we see whether it was just talk or if there will be some action along with it. Remember, the Herd was fighting for its postseason life last week against Houston and had an interesting way of approaching it.
Look at the first half, and the Herd seemed hell-bent on ending the doubt quickly, jumping out to a three-touchdown lead. But as the second half chugged on, that lead disappeared and Marshall needed a career-long field goal from Justin Haig to dodge overtime.
Needless to say, that might have worked on a mediocre Houston team, but that won’t fly against an East Carolina team that can back into the C-USA title game with a win and a UCF loss to UAB.
Aaron Dobson (knee) will suit up for his final regular-season game, while Andre Snipes-Booker (concussion) will not. RB Remi Watson (leg) also is in sweats. S Corie Wilson is back on the travel roster for Marshall, and the only notable omission is third-string QB Gunnar Holcombe. That means that, no matter the score, that redshirt won’t get burned.
If anything earth-shattering comes up, we’ll return to this spot. Otherwise, follow me on Twitter (@derekredd) for updates throughout the day. And …
Happy All-or-Nuthin’ Game, y’all.
