Johnson, a four-star recruit according to ESPN, is a three-star recruit according to Rivals, Scout and 247Sports. He verbally committed to Florida State shortly after 2012 National Signing Day, Rivals reported, but switched to the Herd on Signing Day. Rivals rates the Booker T. Washington High product the country’s No. 27 safety prospect. With Johnson in the secondary, Washington won the Class 4A Florida state title with a 13-1 record. He recorded 112 tackles and eight interceptions combined in his junior and senior years. He also held scholarship offers from Florida International, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Utah and West Virginia.
