Soooo … yeaaaaah …
WVU football Coach Dana Holgorsen discussed future scheduling in Mike Casazza’s column in today’s Daily Mail. And wouldn’t ya know, he even mentioned Marshall in the process.
So I’m just gonna leave this quote here and … well … I’ll let you guys have at it.
If you’re not one of the big boys, don’t hold the big boys back from being able to make their program better. Why should Marshall be fighting for the same prize as West Virginia? Let’s be honest. Why should East Carolina be fighting for the same prize as North Carolina? That’s absurd. That’s more absurd than thinking Bowling Green is going to become the same as Youngstown State.
I believe the operative phrase is, “Release the hounds.”
But before I go, I’ll mention a couple of things. First, I wrote in my column Tuesday that the Power 5 teams should be careful what they wish for when talking about this split. Second, if West Virginia didn’t have wins against C-USA team Marshall and FCS team James Madison — say they switched those with games versus Georgia Tech and Ole Miss — there’s a chance the Mountaineers go from Orange Bowl champ in 2011 to bowl-less in 2012.
Have a neat weekend!
