Greetings from the only Division I press box in West Virginia with working air conditioning. And a working fire alarm, as I’m finding out right now.
So here’s how I figured there’s been no softening of the Herd-Miami rivalry. I was riding the elevator to the press box last week and chatting with some folks working on the swanky new skyboxes, and I asked them what they thought of this first game. These were the first words that came out of one of their mouths …
“I hate them.”
There we go, then.
Suffice it to say, this should be a pretty electric atmosphere within the Joan C. Edwards Stadium confines.
Now for the walking wounded: WR Jack Gammon, WR Jazz King, LB Deon Meadows, LB Billy Mitchell, DL Armonze Daniel and OL Cameron Dees are in civvies tonight. RB Remi Watson tweeted out that he wouldn’t be playing tonight and, sure enough, he’s out here sans pads as well.
And in case you’re wondering … though you’re probably not … Miami is decked out in its brand-new unis and those funky-looking helmets. But it’s nothing compared to the silver mane CBS Sports Network color commentator Randy Cross is sporting atop his head. He’s like Jimmy Page crossed with the Incredible Hulk.
That should be it for now. If anything else pops up, I’ll return. Otherwise, I’m off to the Twitters.
So Happy Thank God Football’s Back Day, y’all.
