C-USA’s Florida schools – Both picked up their inaugural conference wins this past weekend, Florida International over Southern Mississippi and Florida Atlantic over UAB. And, at least in the case of FIU, that’s one more conference win than a lot of people figured they’d get. At least for now, the two teams can say they’re both looking down the C-USA standings at Tulsa (more on that later).
Jaquez Johnson – The FAU quarterback accounted for 404 total yards and three touchdowns in the Owls’ win over UAB. That should give FAU a spark going into this weekend’s crucial game versus Marshall. From what the Herd players had to say, they’re definitely taking an in-depth look at Johnson on film.
Tulsa – Losing to a pair of Big 12 teams is one thing. Losing your C-USA opener to a team you beat last year is something else. The Golden Hurricane has fallen from the top of the conference past the middle and right down into the bottom. Among the teams with more conference wins than Tulsa: FAU, FIU, UTSA and Tulane.
Southern Miss – The Golden Eagles were a heavy favorite at home versus an FIU team that lost by three touchdowns to an FCS team. The Panthers walked out of Hattiesburg with the win. There is a very, very good chance the Eagles could go two full seasons without a win after winning 12 games, a conference title and the Hawaii Bowl in 2011.
