Around my house, we’ve been checking out movie theater show times for “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.” My second-grader is so excited about this movie, she can hardly stand it.
She’s been off and on about reading, mostly regarding it as a school-related chore. A couple of years ago, she went wild for Barbara Park’s very funny Junie B. Jones series, and we read them all. I still try to work Junie B. Jones real actual phraseology into my whole entire everyday conversations.
But it’s been a while since I’ve seen her as excited about any book series as she’s been about the Wimpy Kid books. She’s been devouring them. Last weekend, she read two — which worries me because there are only five in the whole series. Furthermore, she’s put her beloved Disney and Nickelodeon TV lineups aside in favor of… reading.
It’s great. I love it. Thank you, Wimpy Kid.
But what’s she gonna be excited about reading after she’s finished these books?
Anybody got any suggestions?
