Books are a dog’s best friend.
Look at me. I’m highly literate.
The Kanawha County Library has a great program where kids who are learning to read can read to dogs.
Reading is a challenge for many students. Reading aloud presents additional challenges as well. But working with a therapy dog can help new readers feel relaxed while they practice this skill in a fun way! New readers from kindergarten through 6th grade are welcome to participate in this drop-in, four-week program. Reservations are required.
A version of the program is at the library at Riverside High School at 6 p.m. this Monday, Sept. 12, and then the three Mondays after that, finishing on Oct. 3.
Another version of the program is at the Main Library on Capitol Street at 2 p.m. Sept. 24. That’s a Saturday.
