There was an interesting story in the newspaper yesterday about a program in local schools where the kids get to eat food raised on local farms. This natural chemical and preservative free movement in people diets has overtaken the dog and cat food markets as well. When I plan to eat well for myself, I automatically search for healthy pet food for my dog Sadie. I don’t eat food that is full of preservatives or bad for my health and I won’t let Sadie eat it either. These things are important when I choose her food.

I want her food to be a natural pet food without fillers or preservatives. I make certain the pet food ingredients are sourced right here in the United States and the pet food is made in the United States as well. One of our top choices is from Hill’s Pet Nutrition called Hill’s® Ideal Balance™. I could of course make her food myself, the problems there is, I wouldn’t know how to balance the food. That means making sure the right proportion of the key nutrients are in perfect balance for her health. Hill’s does this for you with their Ideal Balance™ food that contains all the key natural ingredients in the right formula and best of all no corn, wheat or soy, and no artificial flavors colors or preservatives.

They carefully choose high quality ingredients, and most importantly to me was to find out that all meat and poultry comes from USDA inspected facilities. Ingredients that are sourced outside the United States must meet the same standards as those from the USA and hills’ has a ZERO tolerance for Salmonella. Sixty quality checks are made on every batch of food, and more than 1000 Salmonella checks are made each month. Hill’s dry foods are manufactured locally right here in the United States at plants they own.

I try to be the best Pet Parent I can, buthave learned in order to do so, I have to do research and go to sources of information I can trust.  An informed Pet Parent is the best customer Hill’s can have. This recent piece in the Chicago Tribune explains how important it is to understand what you read on the label of your dog’s food.

Each Pet Parent has to make the choice they feel is best for their pet. There may not be a “best” pet food for everyone, but with Hill’s® Ideal Balance™, you will find products that may definitely be the best one for your pet. One great option is Hill’s® Ideal Balance™ Grain Free Natural Chicken & Potato Recipe Adult dog food or Hill’s® Ideal Balance™ Natural Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe Adult cat food. Since Sadie is allergic to chicken, lucky for us there is a lamb version. Check them out at

  2. Talking about being responsible, this the way to do it. Pets are part of the family. They also need to be healthy to live a good life and enjoy it with their family. This product is a very promising one. Think I’ll try it for my dog too.
