The atrocious cruelty that has been reported locally of two criminals throwing a helpless, innocent, puppy from a moving truck is actually one of the less severe crimes that occur daily in our “civilized” country against animals. The Deputy Sheriffs that rescued this puppy are to be commended and their commitment to find and arrest these criminals is essential. Every act of animal abuse is a crime and where there is animal abuse…there is more often than not…domestic violence.
West Virginia does not have a Offender Registry and Community Notification statute and it should. Such a law would require notification of the location of anyone convicted of animal abuse. These abusers either already have or go on to abuse humans and we have a right to know they are living in our communities. Those of us who have pets we consider family members have the right to know such monsters are nearby and are a threat of harm to us and our animals.
It seems these criminals in the puppy abuse incident yesterday should have already been reported as people in the area are saying they disposed of animals there before. HEY! CRIMINALS DO NOT REPORT THEMSELVES…CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU WITNESS ANY TYPE OF ABUSE OF A LIVING BEING.
I hope they are caught, prosecuted, and punished. Those of us who love dogs, must do our part to defend them…dogs rarely bite the hand that feeds them. Dogs are guilty of unending love…even for their abusers. Dogs are loyal, loving companions…they’ve defended humans for years…it’s time we reciprocated.
