I Kent believe it!
(Have we already done this somewhere else?)
Well, it’s a quality team for the season opener (or close to the season opener). Not quite the pizzazz of Memphis, Butler, Gonzaga, or even Temple, but still a nice game that will test the new lineup, even at home. It might be close to being too much of a test that early.
I’m surprised it’s their first game and one of our first games. I’m with Sheik, could be a bit worrisome.
Never heard of more fanfare for an opponent that no one cares about.
To further expand upon Sam’s point – I Kent believe it’s not Butler!
(not that I really thought it would be Butler)
Maybe the pep band will play “Fanfare for the Common Team” when the Flashes are introduced.
OK, that mystery is solved. But what about all of these people suddenly talking about a WVU/Pitt package deal to the ACC? It has to be complete rubbish.
Now on the other hand if WVU had a creative/entrepreneurial/think-outside-the-box-and-find-a-way-to-get-it-done kind of athletic director, I could see such an athletic director approaching his arch-rival’s AD and say something like, “You know what? I think that together we have a lot of value to add to a conference like the ACC in both football and basketball. Plus if I can sell the ideal to ESPN they just may see some added value in helping to bankroll this deal. ESPN gets a stronger conference with which it already has a deal and, frankly, this probably lowers the stakes for all interested parties when it comes time for the new Big East deal. Think about it Mr. Pitt AD, ESPN, and ACC. We can be ahead of the curve and make something happen that helps all of us.”
But since we don’t have an AD who thinks like this I know it will never happen.
Would you believe that I was “Stew” the other day and didn’t change back to rekterx for a post made at 2:30 pm?
Stew, the only benefit to getting together with Pitt and saying, “Let’s band together” would be to entice either Pitt or WVU turn down an invitation to a BCS conference if one were invited without the other. Why would they do this?
I’d rather stay in the Big East as it currently stands than the ACC. Before you respond, I know I’m alone.
Same thing happened to me once when I posted as Doug Marrone.
happens to me all the time. I forget to switch back from Gommer….
Me, too. I’m Dave. And I hate everything!
Yep, I live in mortal fear that I’m going to post the Friday Feedback one week under my Sheik alias. Aw, crap.
The WVU to another conference rumor is just another version of the Doonesbury summertime daydream.
I like to think of it as the evil monkey in the closet that occasionally comes out to taunt me.
From a wittiness standpoint, that’s a tremendous comment.
I’m on the fence for a conference move, because I hate the snobby and underperforming ACC but I think we could do well there in both sports and cash bigger checks. We’d also have instantly more respect winning 10+ games a year in a deeper conference. But I would miss the bigger match ups with OOCF opponents with the likes of LSU, FSU, Mich State….those may go away. No way do I want to go to the SEC and rarely sniff a BCS Bowl….unless by some miracle we start getting substantially MORE top flight talent because of our league….its just going to be tougher to go through that gauntlet.
25314 … that’s a shame that you hate everything.
Just so it’s not a flying monkey glib. Those things scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a little tyke.
Thanks Glib and Wayne…now I can’t stop singing the Evil Monkey song Chris does in his goth phase episode or watching Wizard of Oz in my head. For 2 completely different things they both go kind of well together in my messed up brain..
I’m to the point where I think Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Miami get credit if they win the ACC no matter how good or bad the conference is. If anyone else wins it, then the conference gets no credit for being any good.
Sound familiar? It reminds me of 2007, when Pat McAfee said something to the effect of, “Everyone says we have to win with style points even though LSU is ranked #1 and wins every game by one point.”
Wait a minute, I am confused. I thought Gomerr was banned from this site and so he just began posting as Dave. Dave, I fear you will be the new outlet for all of the “emotion” that has been directed at Stew in the past. Maybe it would be easier for everyone if you just started posting as Stew.
I rarely agree with you, Dave, but I will say you make me look at things from a different point of view. Carry on.
I was banned…hince having to post from my real name…
oh hold up, if that’s the case then I get banned…just kidding.
It’s always good to be understood.
But what say ye about my “Ollie Luck is trying to be a facilitator in conference expansion” hypothesis?
I don’t care what you think or want in the way of conference expansion. I am only curious if you might think that there could be substance to the rumor because it strikes you as something that Ollie would attempt to do.
The whole thing smells like Oliver Luck to me.
I could see Ollie (or any competent WVU A.D.) doing that if they saw it as the best way to get us into a more stable conference situation. I think that the wildcard could be the next Big East TV deal. The one thing that could bring some stability to the Big East is enough money to make a team think twice about leaving. I just don’t know how much money and if even that is enough to keep things together.
I just saw on Facebook that we will play Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. I love it.
Those fans are such degenerates. They show up in terrible numbers in Morgantown and act like fools at home. Let’s see how they act in a neutral parking lot.
Kent State beats opening with Morris Brown, but Morris Brown’s band could beat both ours and KSU’s. Drumline!
I prefer a different Morris:
Just a side note to everyone: Today is my final day with my current employer and I will be taking a few weeks off before I start my new job. I don’t know that the new job will be so naive as to let me on here like I am now and I live too far out to have internet. Thus, my time and opinions on here may drop drastically until I am fully settled around the start of the season. Please don’t hesitate to carry on without me and never stop arguing amongst yourselves–it’s half the fun! I will be on throughout the rest of the day as I clean my things out of the office.
Am I the only one who thought, before clicking the link, that Sheik had found some Youtube footage of an old Morris Harvey team?
I could only find Robert Morris, and they don’t dance as well.
I also doubt Robert Morris ever remarked to anybody that their “lips would make a lollipop too happy”
When talking about potential ACC expansion teams from the Big East, I’m suprised no one ever mentions UConn.
After all, they were the leagues’ BCS rep last year and…ahem…won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in basketball, for cripes sake! They don’t have great fan support, but who in the BE other than WVU does?
The only thing Pitt has over UConn is tradition.
Morris Harvey has nothing on this:
I believe that would get the Bruce Irvin seal of approval.
Parks, good luck, and talk to you this fall.
Thank you. I am sure from time to time when I am visiting friends or family who are able to get internet I will get on here and check in, but by mid to late Aug, I should be back in full form.
This blog is getting some major press from the new ESPN Big East blogger. She’s had your blog linked several times in the lunchtime links.
what ever happened to BB anyway on the ESPN blog? I got on one day for the first time in a week or so, and BAM he’s gone. I liked him, any idea where he went off to?
I think he’s moved on to the Big Twhatever blog.
^ What he said.
Does that mean you get paid based on teams per conference? Hmm, well that is just plain weird. WHy would someone who has covered the Big East with a Louisville paper and ESPN for 5 years up and move to that? Just plain strange..
I believe BB started out covering “The Ville” before he worked for “The Worldwide Leader”. Strange indeed to see him move to the Big Twhatever. However, KMS, the new BE blogette is much easier on the eyes.
It’s anchorMAN, not anchorLADY, and that is a scientific fact!
I’ve been trying to figure out who is funnier: Will Ferrell or Margaret Thatcher. So far, I have the “Iron Lady” ahead by a smidgen.
That was funny. But no, I’m not/wasn’t Gomer and am not going to post as Stew.
For as much that was fired at Stewart, I’d be an interesting read to know how the discussions went where Stewart allegedly held on to Mullen so long that Luck decided to make the change.
I can see Stewart being stubborn. I can see Luck deciding to make a change.
We’ll probably never know the details but those must have been interesting conversations if they were had.
So who is doing Feedback in Mike’s absence?
BTW, I don’t believe that Mike has gone anywhere since no big stories have broken.
Yeah we are on quite a streak here…..no F double in 4 of the past 5 weeks?
